WCIU Channel 26 - Eddie Korosa's Polka Party (Part 4, 1978)

Here's Part 4, the last part, of the oldest Polka Party episode that I've been able to find so far. Includes:

Eddie Korosa, Jr. thanks his sister Linda Korosa for co-hosting, and mentions the wedding the following day of his other sister Debbie Korosa.

Florence and Ted Schiramik (sp?) win for being one of the best dancing couples of the evening

Joesph and Mrs. Keness (sp?), Dorothy Pavella, and some other hard to spell names are mentioned.

EJK sings "All I Need Is You"

Commercial: The Baby Doll Polka Club
Commercial: Ed-N-Sam American Motors at 8484 South Chicago Avenue

(short audio problem)

Linda gives Irene Korosa some flowers from her husband Luke, in honor of Mother in Law's day which was the following day. Then EKJ gives flowers from Karen Korosa's husband Ray, and Debbie's husband-to-be Gary.

EKJ closes the show with another rendition of "Baby Doll Polka". No end credits are shown.

This aired on local Chicago TV on Saturday, October 21st 1978. (My 4th Birthday!)

This is an oddly produced Polka Party. Band is set up on the opposite end of the studio in the smaller end of the studio. Dancers usually danced in front of band but on this show the dancers are where the band usually set up. The dancers never go in front of the band in this set up.

"Polka Party" sign above the band is a left over from the shows original sponsor. All- State Lumber was the sponsor. If you watch the very end of the show you can see where black tape was applied to cover up the portion of the sign that had the sponsors name.

As for the audio problem it's important to remember this show was live. As for the lack of credits. WCIU might have been the last station in town to purchase a character generator. The Character Generator is an electronic title maker. Credits when used had to be ordered and purchased from the stations art department. Who would produce a 35mm slide that would then be superimposed over the program close using a film chain. Most producers aka host at 26 at this time were too cheap to have credits made. Later the station made generic credit slides for the crews to use. A few of the directors actually bought their own credit slides to use.

It seems like this show was a family affair- nice to see how everyone had something to contribute! Nice touch having Irene read copy for the commercials.
